What is the history of Cadia?

Cadia® was founded in July 2010 with the mission of creating a brand of affordable organic and natural foods that taste great. Cadia launched with 80 products including beans, juice, chips, and vegetables, and has now grown to more than 250 products. Please note that not all products are available in all regions.

Cadia’s tagline is "Abundance of Simplicity," and we believe just that. We hold a firm belief that food should be enjoyed and even celebrated for the simple pleasures it offers. The products we offer are farmed sustainably and use natural and high-quality ingredients. We believe that enjoying honest, simple, and organic ingredients paves the way to a rich life filled with abundant pleasures.

What is a B Corp and why does Cadia have this seal?

To be a Certified B Corp, companies must voluntarily meet the rigorous requirements in the areas of transparency, ownership, job growth, work environment and accountability. KeHE Distributors, owner of the Cadia® brand, has earned Certified B Corp status. Cadia® practices are part of what makes KeHE a certified B Corp. We’re proud to be part of the high standards required of companies who are Certified B Corps.

Where do Cadia® products come from?

The majority of our products come from family farms in North America-many are second and third generation. We support family farming and seek out suppliers who practice sustainable farming practices whenever possible.

Does Cadia® make gluten-free products?

What is the Feingold® Association of the United States?

The Feingold Product Information Center contacts food manufacturers to research brand-name foods, and prepare books listing products that are free of synthetic colorings, flavoring, and preservatives. Cadia® supports the efforts of the Feingold® Association of the United States and we proudly make Feingold® accepted products. You will see our products listed in their Foodlist and Shopping Guide for parents.

What are GMOs (genetically modified organisms), and what does the Non-GMO Project do?

GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing techniques of biotechnology. The Non-GMO Project is an initiative to create a standardized definition of non-GMO. The Project's Product Verification Program is entirely voluntary, and participants are companies who see the value of offering their customers a verified non-GMO choice. Many of the individuals and businesses leading the way with the Project are the same ones responsible for creating the original organic standards.

When possible, we attempt to source and offer Non-GMO Verified products. Look for the Non-GMO Project Verified Logo on product packaging for verified items.

Is Cadia® canned tuna “dolphin safe”?

Yes, our wild-caught Tongol and Albacore Tuna are sourced specifically because these are two species of tuna that dolphins have a tendency not to swim with. To receive certification, we have an independent observer from the Earth Island Institute accompany us on each fishing trip to ensure that no dolphins have been harmed. In addition, our canned tuna is certified kosher by the Orthodox Union that inspects our canneries on an ongoing basis.

Does Cadia® test its canned tuna for mercury?

Yes, we have testing procedures in place to ensure that our canned tuna is below the FDA limit of 1 ppm (part per million). Any catch of fish that exceeds the levels set by the FDA is rejected.

Does Cadia® pasteurize its juices and apple sauces?

Yes, both our juice and apple sauce products are pasteurized. FDA regulations state that all apple sauce products must be processed by heat to prevent spoilage; therefore it is not necessary to indicate this on the label.

How is the milk used to make your dairy products sourced?

Our milk has been sourced from farmers that follow strict guidelines on how to treat their animals in terms of feed, living conditions, access to open pasture, and no use of antibiotics and other sustainable animal husbandry practices. Our cows graze on open pastures and also consume a daily regimen of organic blended grains, corn, roasted soybeans, mixed grasses, legumes, dry hay, and grass silage.

What is the process by which Cadia Coconut Water goes from the coconut, to the can, to the shelf of the store? Is it made from concentrate?

The coconut water comes from young coconuts picked at just the right time before maturity. How the coconuts are cut open is actually a trade secret, but we can tell you that once they are open the water is then collected, filtered and heated to remove any particles and bacteria before being canned. Our coconut water is not made from concentrate, and aside from those labeled on the can, there are no other ingredients included in our coconut water.

Are Cadia® products certified kosher?

Yes, most of our products are kosher certified and are marked with a symbol on the package.

Kosher certification agencies examine our ingredients, supervise the processes to prepare our products, and periodically inspect the processing facilities to make sure that kosher standards are maintained. Different kosher certifying agencies follow slightly different certification standards. Kosher symbols are registered trademarks of kosher certification organizations, and cannot be placed on a food label without that organization's permission.

Are Cadia® products certified organic? What does the USDA organic label indicate?

Yes, our organic products are certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI). Our products are either "organic," containing 95% or more organic ingredients (excluding salt and water) or are "made with organic ingredients," containing between 70-94% organic ingredients.

Are Cadia® canned products bisphenol-A free (BPA- free)?

Within the guidelines of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety, we strongly support the elimination of containers using BPA. Our canned tuna, organic canned tomatoes, organic canned vegetables, and organic canned beans use a non-intent BPA lining-- which means no BPA was added to the lining during production.

Is there a possibility of cross-contamination in Cadia® products?

As far as cross-contamination, we list the eight major allergens and all other possible allergens that are also produced in the facility on all of our package labels. If the package does not have one of the following statements, then it is free from all allergens or risk of cross contamination:

Does Cadia® offer coupons?

Because we provide affordable everyday pricing on all of our products, we do not offer any coupons.

Can I buy Cadia® products directly from you?

Currently, Cadia® products are sold through Organic and Natural independent retailers. Please check our Where to Buy page to locate a retailer near you.

Why is the honey in the jar solid?

Raw honey is a natural product that retains it's enzymes and pollen. Raw honey crystallizes at temperatures below 55°F. Crystallized honey can be brought back to liquid consistency by gently heating the container in hot water (between 90-100°F) for a few minutes. Heat should be applied indirectly and not by direct flame to the container. Do not put in microwave under any circumstances. To maintain the raw properties, honey should not be heated above 110°F.

Is Cadia® blackstrap molasses unsulfered?

Yes, our Cadia® Organic Blackstrap Molasses is unsulfured.

Is Cadia® Organic Apple Cider Vinegar unpasteurized? Does it contain the mother?

Our Cadia® Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is unfiltered and unpasteurized. However, it does not contain the mother.
